There is much debate about what the first holiday might have been, ranging from Winter Solstice to Samhain. The one thing that's clear about the history of holidays is that they were astronomical in nature; meaning they were based on the passage of observable time.

The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So many people seem to ignore that quote, doing instead what seems to benefit themselves at the cost of others. As interconnected as our world has become, it is still easy to doubt that reciprocity is even a useful concept anymore.
Where did the idea come from? Can we modernize the Golden Rule into something beneficial today?

Being independent in America is one of the most prized attributes. Even when seeking a partner, a common prerequisite is that they can take care of themselves.
Conversely, once in a relationship, many partners expect a sort of obsessive, undying, and sometimes possessive kind of love. With qualifiers like that, how does anyone expect to find happiness in relationships?
