There are many branches to cycles, yet no teacher for the general topic itself. To find a lesson, you must first pick a cycle...

In other words, to learn more about cycles you can follow the natural types or study habits. Natural cycles are pretty in-depth, so we'll cover those separate from this week as holidays, moon phases, etc. along the way. To stay along the path of cycles in general, today will focus on some ways to incorporate conscious cycles (otherwise known as habits) into everyday practice.
Fancy Talk For Habits
A lot of study has been done on habits: how the brain forms and recalls them, steps to make or break, and what happens without them. Our minds love routines, organizing the chaos of infinite choices provided to us daily. However, most people still struggle to wrangle the beast of willpower to tame their habits.
I found three fantastic books to help cover habits from three different angles: positive, negative and neutral.
I'm not sure there are neutral habits, to be honest, but this book covers the basic understanding of all habits and how they are formed and used by the brain.
Fair warning: the book may seem a bit dry at points, as he explores different experiments and their results with scientific scrutiny. The insight is worth the read, though, I assure you!
We've all got them: smoking, overeating, couch surfing, chronic gaming, alcoholism, even habitually victimizing ourselves. Most think of addiction as the generic "bad habit," but usually the core is codependency.
The path may be painful at first, discovering these hidden thoughts and behaviors you've taken for granted. Stick with it, though, because awareness is the first step toward healing.
Removing negative habits will leave a deep void, making backsliding all too easy when trying to change for the better. To round out your understanding of habits, it's necessary to know what good ones are, and how to make habits easier along the way.
