Physical and mental health are accepted as part of our daily well-being. Before venturing on the journey to spiritual health, a foundation of health for body and mind must be managed. It's commonly thought that the three aspects of self are linked to form an individual, after all.
Whether spirit is truly a separate aspect or merely a state of mind, there's little argument against health being an important factor for any walk of life. But what exactly is health? How does metaphysical health differ from the norm?
A Line In The Sand
In a lot of ways, metaphysical health is identical to the average understanding of health and well-being. A foundation of healthy habits, including mindful exercise, diet and hygiene are essential to metaphysical health. To go beyond physical wellness, we must first tend to the body and physiological aspects of the mind.
The real "line" between meta-health and normal standards is pure perspective. From the view of science, for instance, many precautions are taken to manage the presence of microscopic life forms. Bacteria, fungi, and viruses are invisible creatures that often have a big impact on our bodies. From a metaphysical view, these life forms have their own energy fields, impacted by our very mood at times.
While science actually backs up the idea of emotions affecting susceptibility to diseases, the perspective of metaphysical phenomena helps in various ways that modern medicine alone cannot.
The "Magical" Difference
Metaphysical health doesn't claim to be a replacement for medicine, nor does it directly deny what science has proven. Rather it seeks to add understanding to the experiences in a way that can be more beneficial for certain situations.
Take for example, depression. There is a perfectly reasonable scientific explanation for the hormonal imbalance, which can often be brought about by repeated patterns of thinking. This imbalance has an affect on the immune system, weakening the body's defenses. However, simply knowing these facts doesn't address the solution. Each person has a unique journey to overcoming their depressive state.
Metaphysically, we could view this same occurrence as energy fields, where damaging beliefs are seen as spiritual creatures in their own right. These beliefs exist by propagating through family teachings, social interactions and capitalizing on experiences that support such beliefs. If a belief is a parasitic thing inside our metaphysical selves, then it is not ourselves at all. Seeing a belief as its own entity (whether truly alive or not) gives us each the tools to separate them from ourselves and handle them directly.

Going beyond the body and mind cannot be at the cost of body and mind itself. Going too far beyond without considering the effects on the body and mind has the potential to sever the 'spirit' from its counterparts. The purpose of metaphysiology is to unify, not to divide.
